In thinking about man’s effect on the landscape, one imagines that there would be relatively clear boundaries between the natural environment and human development. In the real world there is not always such clarity. Where the two meet, there often appears to be a push and pull, a dance where human construction invades and then nature slowly returns. Walls, fences, buildings and manicured nature is used to obfuscate one from the other. An in-between place exists in this interface that is often overlooked and sometimes hidden. I find these to be fascinating and special places full of quiet chaos. Sometimes like terrestrial tide pools, full of life, and at other times, wastelands. This series of photographs is an exploration of this relationship.
